“Outposts, one only-move puzzle, and five chapters until the rematch.”
Harold Gonzalez · Club director
Rematch training camp. ⏱️ Chapter 35 of 40 Lessons for the Club Player: "The Formation of Outposts."
An outpost is a square in the other half of the board that no enemy pawn can ever attack. Put a knight there, back it with a pawn, and it becomes a squatter with a lease nobody can break. 🐴
Then we sparred. Black to move in the position below: the knight on c6 is attacked, and only one move holds. Find it before you read on. 🧩
Answer: 1...exd5! 2.exd5 Re8+. The open e-file comes with check against the king on e1, and the knight gets its time. ✅
Five chapters left. Then Tampa. ⚔️
