Battle for the Bay: Tampa takes round one

“Tampa took the match. We took a queen, a rookie's section and a National Master's scalp. Round two is on our patio.”

Harold Gonzalez · Club director

Saturday night, Tampa. Kava Social rolled into Tampa Knights' home for the first ever Battle for the Bay, and the hosts held serve. Tampa took the match. We fought for every half point, and we're driving home with more than a scoreline. 🔥

Start with the queen. Maddie was named Best Female Player of the battle, trophy in hand, and the photo in front of our own sign says the rest. 👑

Then the rookie. Toska, in his first club battle, won his section outright and took Best Rookie with it. First road trip, first trophy. That is how you announce yourself. 🥇

And on board one, Ben, rated 1800 USCF, beat a National Master. Read that again. Our board one beat a National Master. 🧠⚔️

Huge thanks to Frank and the Tampa Knights for hosting a proper event: full tables, a crowd on the sidewalk, and a drinks menu named after openings. That is a club that gets it. 🤝

Now the part that matters. Battle for the Bay 2 is coming, and this time it's on Kava Social turf. Our patio, our lights, our boards. Tampa, bring everyone. We'll have the kettle on. ⚔️
