“Twelve studious players arrived thirsty for knowledge.”
Harold Gonzalez · Club director
Chapter 31 of 40 Lessons for the Club Player: the center is the soul of the opening. The chapter builds on Alexander Belyavsky and the Lvov school of grandmasters, and its argument is simple. Control the central squares and your pieces find their development on their own; give the center up and every plan has to be forced. The tactical wins in the games come later, but they are decided there. 📚
Then the books went down and we sparred. One sharp Sicilian middlegame, played out from both sides. Black has just swung the queen to h4, and it is a mistake. White to move: find the punishment. The position is below, so take it home if you did not solve it at the table. ♟️
Twelve studious players arrived thirsty for knowledge, and the room worked for the whole session. That is the Tuesday we want, four days out from the Battle for the Bay. ⚔️
